IV. Tips in Conversational Evangelism
We often stress ourselves out by thinking of the “perfect” approach to start a conversation about God. However, evangelism is simply about witnessing (certifying the truth about something from personal knowledge or experience). So don’t get too stressed about the “tactics and techniques”!
Tips in Conversational Evangelism:
- Be natural in how you broach a spiritual topic. Do not ask sudden questions that may throw the pre-believer off-guard or make things awkward. Be sensitive to the flow of the conversation and be alert to relate any conversational points to the topic.
- Do not be overly dependent on a certain set of faith-sharing "protocol" (step-by-step process). Instead, focus on telling how God changed you.
- Be careful not to turn the conversation into a monologue. Always remember to maintain a DIALOGUE - allow/encourage the other person to contribute his thoughts - so that you will get to know what he/she is thinking and address any concerns he/she may have.
- Keep the conversation simple. Avoid religious jargons. If you really must, explain them.
